Six Month Stats

Franklin and I saw Dr. Levin again yesterday for his six month "well baby" checkup (oxymoron since we BOTH are still sick and his cold seems to have experienced a second wind) - Franklin is 17.9 pounds (I think he would have weighed more, but he lost a little weight before-hand and had not been given his 3:00 feeding at daycare when he was weighed), 26.5 inches long with a head circumference of 17.7 inches. The percentiles stack up at 48% for weight, 41% for height, and 75th for head. So maybe his body is catching up to his head, but the head is still winning. By a lot. Keep growing, little man! (Pics taken this morning, he's watching his teacher blow bubbles and yes the tongue thing is a new trick).

My Latest Obsessions

I'm currently on a "I'm not pregnant and am excited about fashion and beauty again" kick. My favorite yearly issue of In Style came in the mail last week and it did not disappoint. Yes, the "beauty" issue, where the favorite products of beauty editors and wannabe fashionistas across the country are reviewed, revealed that my personal favorites are also pretty popular nationwide. Once again, the foundation I've mentioned before was listed as tops for those in my color-group (Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #5), as well as the Nars blush and Dior Show mascara that I typically wear. A new favorite I'm hoping to pick up this weekend:
Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Balm, $22.50 at Sephora. This is apparently every beauty editor's newest fave. Natural color but just enough to look put together.

A few other recent things I've picked up include:

The scarf. Old Navy. Super cheap, super cute. Scarves are apparently very "in" for early Spring/Summer.

Yes, to some this may look like a "jort." Others will recognize these shorts as splashed all over every magazine from Elle to Us Weekly. Good for moms on the go. Again, Old Navy.

Lightweight cardigan. Perfect for work and play. 100% cotton, thus machine washable. Old Navy = cheap. I snagged several and at $15.00 a piece Frank didn't have a fit. The green above and white are my personal faves (but I have black also).

The Wedge. Everywhere and on everyone. These were a particularly difficult purchase. Cynthia Vincent for Target. I read about these in Elle and In Style, and on several blogs I frequent. I went to Target online and noted the release date. I logged onto my computer 12 hours after they went on sale, only to discover they had been SOLD OUT. COMPLETELY. IN EVERY SIZE. Seriously? I realize they are a $29.99 exact copy by the same designer of a $600 shoe from last season, but every size? A quick trip to the closest Target store also revealed they were sold out. Again. In every size. What was going on? Target's online inventory system told me that they were available at a Target about 20 minutes from where I was located. Hubby was attempting to make his own purchase in the same city the next day. Hubby went to that Target and was also DENIED. I find it hard to believe that there are that many savvy fashionistas in my community. Ebay perhaps? Yes. In every size. About 10 pairs each in every size listed for twice the going rate at Target. Darn you, trailer trash looking to make a buck! The purpose of Target's designers is to allow the masses to have access to high fashion at discount prices! Don't you people know this?? At this point I am super annoyed. I want these shoes. I proceed to call five different Targets and search the inventories of those located near any of my friends. One final phone call to my local store to see if they will, perhaps, be getting another shipment in anytime soon reveals they have two pair left. One is a little larger than the size I normally wear, but the online reviews state they are running 1/2 a size smaller. Shoes are put on hold. SCORE! I now own these shoes. Yes, it was worth it.

And last, but not least, the RayBan Aviator. I have been waiting to purchase a "nice" pair of sunglasses due to my need for prescription lenses. However, one pair of contacts later and prescription lenses are no longer necessary.

Do you guys have any fun purchases on the radar this Spring?

Welcome, Sydney!

I am a little behind in posting this, but congrats to our friends William and Sarah on the birth of their beautiful baby girl Sydney Watson on 4/24/10! I am itching to give this baby a hug, but Franklin and I must get well first. We know that Sydney and Franklin will enjoy playing together in the years to come!

Six Months Old!

Where did the time go? Six months ago today we welcomed this precious boy into our lives. He just grows sweeter by the day, couldn't you just eat him up?!? We regularly have "conversations" and he thinks I am super funny right now! I could listen to him giggle all day long. We are still not crawling, but he can pass objects from one hand to another, stands if you place him against something, and can sit up unassisted. Frank and I are both lobbying for the first word (i.e. "mah-mah" or "dah-dah"), so it should be interesting to see what actually comes out of Franklin's mouth! Currently, he is obsessed with our dogs. Bebe and Lola had better watch it, before we know it he'll be following them around pulling on their ears and tails. I'll take more pictures tomorrow, but at the moment I am fighting the same cold he is. I guess it was to be expected. I hope we both feel better soon! Happy 1/2 birthday sunshine!

My Macho Man

We received yet another phone call from F's school yesterday due to the plague he's currently battling... he sounds HORRIBLE and I am ready for my sweet angel to feel better. He spent the afternoon with me at work, and despite his cold and refusal to nap while at school, he cooed and grinned and everyone he met and slept on mommy for a good part of the afternoon. So it IS possible to work with a six month old in your office. I think we will be seeing teeth shortly (I know, I've been predicting this for awhile), but the hand very rarely leaves the mouth at the moment and I can see a few little buds on his gums. Here's hoping they appear shortly, I know Mr. Macho would like some relief.

Flashback

One year ago today, Frank and I were nervously waiting to see my doctor. At that point I'd taken about 50 million pregnancy tests, but until I actually saw our little bean and heard his heartbeat I couldn't relax. Around 11 AM (we waited FOREVER) we were taken into the ultrasound room, and saw our precious baby boy, all 7 weeks an 3 days of him:

I don't think we could even comprehend how much we love this child... he is cuter than I could have ever imagined and just gets sweeter by the day. Little one was under the weather yesterday ( ugh - colds! daycare! yeesh!) and I stayed home with him -- All 17.7 pounds of him. My biceps may never be the same. Despite the hacking cough and runny nose, he was all smiles and giggles for his mommy. They even took blood at the doctor's office and he just grinned at the nurse. He's one tough little man. We could not love him more (but I am sure we will)!

So, apparently my outlook calendar was wrong and I should have read prior posts. We actually saw F for the first time on 3/31/09. Oops. Hooray for our first OB visit with Dr. Straughn a year ago today! And yes, I did get a good look at baby boy that day. We just didn't get any pictures. But he was getting big in there! (And making mommy gain weight!) Hooray for mommy reaching a milestone this weekend: a "3" in the number on the scale for the first time in nearly a year! See, lots to celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Bebe!

Today my first baby is six years old... SIX YEARS! Where did the time go? This sweet little sugar lump slept in my lap while I studied for law school exams, slept on a pillow next to me all night long (until I married) and was an awesome road-buddy during long car trips across the state. We had some good times, full of fast-food runs and french fry binges. She warmed to Frank quickly, especially when he learned she loved to chase a tennis ball bounced off the roof of his rental house.

I know she will come to love Franklin too. Eventually. Now she just tries to beat him into my lap when we hang out on the couch. It's ok, I understand. It's hard being the first-born, particularly when you still think you're the baby. Maybe I'll let her eat some table food tonight as a special treat, although we have to watch her weight in her old age. I would have bought Bebe a present but Frank's been a little tight with the purse these days. Oh well. Happy birthday anyway!
